(This was ¥2,500 less than the Tanack IV-S with f/2 lens, an indication that rangefinder cameras were becoming harder to sell.) Other standard lenses available for the camera were the Tanar 5cm f/2.8 and f/1.5.

Nicca was well known for making high quality 35mm rangefinder cameras since the late 1940s. Nicca cameras normally came with lenses branded as Nikkor. When the Nicca Type 33 was released in 1958, it came with a Nicca branded lens. We don't know if Nicca was the actual lens maker or another company made the lens and Nicca had their name affixed.

In 1935, Genji Kumagai, the inspiration behind the Nippon/Nicca camera, started work at camera maker Seiki Kōgaku Kenkyūjo which was later to become Canon. He left in the late 1930s as work turned increasingly to military contracts and started a Leica repair and modification shop, e.g. adding rangefinders to models without them.
The Leotax was my first RF. with a Topcor 5cm 1.5 / 9cm f3:5 / 3.5 f2:8 lenses which work well on both but I still prefer using the Summitar 5cm f1:2 on the Leica. Nicca's origins are from before World War II and linked to Canon's ancestry. It was one of the early makers of Leica copy 35 mm cameras and was an important, if not very big, player in the rise of the post-War Japanese photographic industry.
In 1950 the company name was changed to Nicca Camera Works LTD, and again in November 1951 it was changed to Nicca Camera Co. LTD. The company priced its products very aggressively, and they were sold in great numbers. In 1952 they landed a contract with Sears Roebuck to build Tower cameras.

Their first Leica copy (yeah, another company making clones … can’t get enough of those Sugar Crisps) was called the Nippon, made in 1942. In 1947 they changed the company name to Nippon Camera Works and the first Nicca labeled camera was made.

Its first camera, modelled on the Leica III, was produced in 1942. The company survived the war and in 1948 it was renamed the Nippon Camera Works.
